For extreme cold, follow these fuel management tips to ensure operability:
- Use Cold-Weather Fuel Solutions:
- Opt for low cloud point, reactive winter fuels.
- Increase treatment ratios or add a Wax Anti-Settling Agent (WASA).
- Blend #1 ULSD, if needed.
- Cold Weather Best Practices:
- Avoid prolonged vehicle inactivity; periodically start and idle engines to keep fuel flowing.
- Store portable fuel tanks indoors or in wind-protected areas.
- Use filters no larger than 30 microns for outdoor storage tanks and agitate tanks during cold spells with air hoses or by looping the nozzle into the fill hole.
- Quick Tips on Additives:
- Anti-gel additives prevent wax molecules from clumping.
- When fuel reaches its saturation point, waxes, moisture, and glycerin may drop out.
- If temperatures stay below your fuel’s cloud point, WASA helps keep waxes suspended longer.
- When additives are maxed out, blending with #1 ULSD effectively lowers cloud points and thins waxes.
